Three Cambodian Athletes Set for 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris

PHNOM PENH, July 19, 2024 — Cambodia is proudly sending three athletes to compete in the upcoming 2024 Summer Olympics, scheduled to take place in France from July 26 to August 11.

The national contingent includes runner Mr. Chhun Bunthorn and two swimmers, Mr. Antoine Le Lapparent and Ms. Sakbun Katarina. They were given a spirited send-off at a pre-departure ceremony held on July 17, where Senior Minister Thong Khon, President of the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia (NOCC), imparted some parting advice.

Minister Khon encouraged the athletes to maintain their focus on the competition and uphold the highest standards of sportsmanship. He emphasized the importance of competing with integrity and adhering strictly to both the law and the rules of the games to uphold the dignity of themselves and their country.

The Paris 2024 Summer Olympics presents a valuable opportunity for these athletes to not only compete at the highest levels of sport but also to foster friendship, solidarity, and cultural exchange among participants from around the globe. This year's games are expected to draw 10,500 athletes from 206 countries, making it a melting pot of diverse cultures and sporting excellence.
